SEO Audit

An SEO audit that tells you what is broken and what to fix first

An audit is not a 90-page PDF of everything a crawler flagged. That kind of report gets read once and never acted on, because it does not distinguish between a missing alt tag and an entire section blocked from indexing.

This audit produces a ranked list: what is costing you traffic right now, what is capping your growth, what is cosmetic — and the specific fix for each, in the order they should be done.

What this delivers

  • A ranked list of issues by traffic impact, not by crawler severity
  • A specific, developer-ready fix for each item
  • Clarity on which fixes are quick wins and which need a project
  • A baseline you can measure future progress against

What's included

What SEO audit covers

The concrete scope of work. Nothing here is filler — every item exists because it changes what a site is capable of ranking for.
  • Technical SEO

Crawlability, indexation, redirects, canonicals, sitemaps, robots.txt, duplicate URLs, JavaScript rendering and server response behaviour.

  • On-page SEO

Titles, descriptions, heading structure, keyword mapping, intent match, internal linking and content depth across every important page.

  • Content review

What is performing, what is thin, what is cannibalising, and what could be consolidated into something stronger.

  • Keyword and visibility analysis

What you rank for today, what you nearly rank for, and where the demand you are missing sits.

  • Indexing analysis

A page-by-page reconciliation of what you have published against what Google has actually indexed, with the reason for each exclusion.

  • Google Search Console review

Coverage, enhancements, manual actions, mobile usability and query-level performance — the most reliable data available about your site.

  • Page speed

Field and lab data, diagnosed to root causes rather than to a score.

  • Mobile performance

Layout, tap targets, readability, overflow and stability at real device widths, since mobile is the version Google indexes.

  • Internal linking

Link depth, orphan pages, anchor text distribution and whether authority reaches your commercial pages.

  • Schema and structured data

What is implemented, what is invalid, what is missing, and what would be unsupported or risky to add.

  • Competitor comparison

How your site measures against the three to five sites actually taking your search traffic.

  • Backlink profile

What you have, whether anything looks toxic, and where realistic opportunities exist.

  • Local SEO

Google Business Profile configuration, citation consistency, review position and location page quality.

In detail

How SEO audit actually works

What you receive

The deliverable is built to be used by three different people: the business owner deciding what to fund, the marketer planning the quarter, and the developer implementing the fix.

Audit deliverables

  • Executive summary

The three to five things genuinely holding the site back, in plain language, with the expected effect of fixing them.

  • Prioritised issue list

Every finding scored on impact and effort, sequenced so the high-impact, low-effort work happens first.

  • Technical specification

Developer-ready detail — affected URLs, current behaviour, required behaviour, and how to verify the fix.

  • Keyword and page map

What each important page should target, and where two pages currently compete for the same search.

  • Competitive context

How the site compares with the competitors actually ranking, and where the openings are.

  • Walkthrough call

A session to go through the findings, answer questions and agree what happens first.

How the audit is carried out

  1. 01

    Access and context

Read access to Google Search Console and Analytics, plus a short conversation about the business, its services and what a good lead looks like.

  2. 02

    Full site crawl

The entire site crawled as a search engine would, including rendered JavaScript, then reconciled against your sitemap and Search Console data.

  3. 03

    Manual review

Crawlers cannot judge intent match, content quality or whether a page deserves to rank. Key templates and money pages are reviewed by hand.

  4. 04

    Search Console analysis

Query, page and indexation data examined for patterns — pages that lost position, queries that appear but never convert, sections excluded from the index.

  5. 05

    Competitive benchmarking

Your priority terms checked against live results to see who ranks and what their pages do differently.

  6. 06

    Prioritisation and reporting

Findings scored, sequenced and written up with the reasoning attached, so priorities can be defended internally.

Issues an audit typically surfaces

Across most sites, the same small set of problems accounts for the majority of lost organic traffic. They are rarely exotic, and they are almost always invisible from the front end.

  • A large share of published pages excluded from Google's index, usually as thin or duplicate
  • Two or more pages competing for the same search, destabilising both
  • Service pages written as brochures rather than as answers to a search
  • Location pages produced by find-and-replace, which rank for nothing
  • Internal links concentrated on the blog while commercial pages sit three or four clicks deep
  • A redesign that changed URLs without a complete redirect map
  • Third-party scripts adding seconds to mobile load time
  • Structured data that is invalid, or that describes content the page does not contain
  • A Google Business Profile with the wrong primary category, capping local visibility

What happens after the audit

Some clients take the report to their in-house team or developer and implement it themselves. That is a legitimate outcome, and the report is written to make it possible — nothing is withheld to force a follow-on engagement.

Where implementation support is wanted, the audit feeds directly into an SEO strategy and an ongoing engagement, with the audit findings forming the first phase of the roadmap.

Questions

SEO Audit — common questions

How long does an SEO audit take?
Typically one to two weeks depending on site size. Large ecommerce catalogues and multi-location sites take longer because there are more templates and more URL patterns to examine.
What access do you need?
Read-only access to Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Without Search Console the audit is materially weaker — it is the only place Google tells you directly which pages it has indexed and why the others were excluded.
Do you fix the issues as part of the audit?
The audit itself is diagnosis and specification. Implementation can be handled separately, either by your team using the specification or as an ongoing engagement.
Will an audit tell me why my rankings dropped?
Usually yes. Ranking drops trace back to a small number of causes — a technical change, a migration handled badly, lost links, a core update, or a competitor materially improving. The audit identifies which applies, and the Search Console history usually dates the change precisely.
Is an audit worth it for a small website?
Often more so. Small sites have fewer pages, so a single broken pattern affects a larger proportion of the site. Audits on small sites are also faster, and the fixes tend to be quicker to implement.
What does an SEO audit cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the site, so it is agreed after a short conversation about your website and what you need from it. Request your SEO audit and you will get a scoped answer rather than a package.
